Established in 1996, SAR Global 1 – Ottawa Gatineau Volunteer Search and Rescue is a federally incorporated, non-profit, fully volunteer-based search and rescue organization serving the Western Quebec andEastern Ontario regions.
Our mission is to assist individuals and communities through search and rescue operations, education and prevention programs through the provision of assistance to emergency response organizations.
Our team is made up of volunteers from the community from varied backgrounds, bringing with them a wealth of skills, abilities and experiences. With over 120 members, SAR Global 1 – Ottawa Gatineau Volunteer Search and Rescue can rapidly deploy highly trained Search and Rescue Specialists at the request of any police authority.

Our volunteer members donate their expertise, time and equipment to respond to missing or lost persons incidents, and support local authorities in responding to community disasters. The team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to calls in both urban and wilderness environments.
SAR Global 1 – Ottawa Gatineau Volunteer Search and Rescue also offers three AdventureSmart programs to children and groups including Boy Scouts/Girl Guides, Ottawa Canoe Club, school groups, and private requests. They are:
- The Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s “Hug-a-Tree” program, which teaches children how to avoid getting lost and what to do if lost;
- Survive Outside, a presentation on outdoor safety and the code of responsibility; and,
- Snow Safety Education Program, designed for children in grades 4-6, covering the Alpine Responsibility Code and backcountry hazards.
SAR Global 1 – Ottawa Gatineau Volunteer Search and Rescue is a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency and can provide income tax receipts for any charitable donations over $10.
