2012 SG1 Awards of Excellence:
Outstanding contribution by an individual: Jack Ricou
For outstanding efforts over many years. Jack is ready and willing at any time to take on any task and give it his best effort. His leadership, organizational, training, carpentry and interpersonal skills have been instrumental in making SAR Global 1 what it is today.
Outstanding contribution by a team/committee: Dispatch Team
For outstanding achievement in the organization and dispatch of the SAR Global 1 teams. They are a group of dedicated individuals who are the first to be tasked when a “Call Them All” is received. The team has a finger on the pulse of all tasking assignments.
Recruit of the year: Laura Smith
For outstanding effort as a new SAR Global 1 recruit in contributing to the Training Committee as a GPS and BSAR instructor, in the development and management of exercises and in the mentoring of fellow new recruits.
Lifetime Achievement Award: Steve Nason
After joining SAR Global 1 in August 2003, Steve has devoted untold hours ensuring that SG1 is the preeminent Ground SAR resource in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. Through professional and sound planning and development, he continues to refine the SAR Global 1 approach to SAR operations and to maintain it at a very high level.
Good Samaritan Award: Adrien Beaudin
For outstanding personal efforts during the evening and morning of the 28 and 29 December 2012 in the rescue of two lost and desperate snowshoers. Using his wilderness, technical and personal skills, he managed very effectively to prevent a dire situation from becoming much more serious.
